Conservatives are people too

I like to lurk in the conservative news world. I can only take so much of reading opinions that I generally agree with, and prefer to swim about the murky depths of right wing media. Sort of a "keep your enemies closer" thing, IDK.

Conservative's aren't stupid. They know the split in the GOP is irreparable, and they've lost. They know they got swindled by the business interests of the party, and got fooled all the way to the end. They thought they lost the country, but then they found out it was never theirs to begin with.

The Silents dealt with the horrors of a world brought to the brink, and did their best to make sure that sort of thing would never happen. They raised a generation and armed them with everything they knew and understood about the world at the time. They pointed them in the direction of prosperity and peace, as best as they could figure, and watched them sail off into the distance, on a voyage to explore the unknown and and forge a better world.

And they missed. It happens, we're human like that. They got some stuff wrong, but they got a hell of a lot of stuff right. We all long fondly for the economy of the 50's, when we were a roaring lion of an economic superpower. That's something they got right. They got enough right, more than enough to provide us, the Millennials, with all the information we need to get even closer to the goal of creating that more peaceful and prosperous world. The fate of the entire world once rested in their hands and, understandably, they're terrified of handing off the reins to someone else. But they're all bark and no bite. No matter how much they huff and puff, there will never be an uprising, no Civil War 2: Electric Boogaloo. They are NEVER, EVER destroying this paradise and of luxury and comfort they've constructed themselves simply for the right to not have to take pictures of gay people at weddings. It's laughable on the face of it. These people live at a standard, on a scale(!), never before seen in the history of humanity, that could scarcely be imagined even 500 years ago. The cost benefit analysis on this could be done by a five year old.

Humanity, I would reckon, has reached the beginning of the end of the Era of Civil Wars. We have, at this point, improved our standard of living to a point where it is more beneficial to solve disagreements and conflicts verbally, rather than physically. Nobody is going to burn down a state county, take up arms, and march on Washington over gay marriage.

NEVER.

GONNA .

HAPPEN.

So can we just move on, as a country, and agree that on some issues, but not all, we just nod politely at them while they give their side of things, and say "I respect you giving me your side of things, but I disagree. And in this instance, we're going to do things my way, but I still want your opinion on other topics, because your thoughts and concerns matter to me."

Can we not at least give them the respect they deserve? They raised us. And they did a pretty darned good at it. They weren't perfect, but hey, neither are we. Can we settle this thing like adults?

What follows is a selection of my favorite comments from this article. They made me laugh, because they sound like people who aren't happy with the destination, but they're determined to have some fun along the way. Some... are a bit crass. In that grumpy old man "get off my lawn" way
